Linux zone redundancy

Description

Test your Linux-hosted service's availability when a randomly selected availability zone becomes unreachable. Verify that traffic fails over to secondary zones.

What this Scenario does

This Scenario drops network traffic between your Linux hosts in one availability zone and the rest of your infrastructure, simulating a complete zone outage. This forces your load balancers and routing mechanisms to redirect traffic to Linux hosts in the remaining zones.

Why run this Scenario?

  • Demonstrate that your Linux infrastructure is truly zone-redundant, not just deployed across multiple zones.
  • Verify that load balancers detect the zone outage and redirect traffic to healthy Linux hosts in other zones.
  • Test whether your secondary zones have enough Linux host capacity to handle the traffic surge from the failed zone.
  • Ensure that traffic returns to normal distribution when the zone comes back online.

Expected outcome

When a zone fails, Linux hosts in secondary zones automatically absorb the traffic with no interruption in service.
